Bulldog Shop On-Line Sales Strong in 2008

FRESNO, Calif. - While the retail industry across the nation had a tough year in 2008, Fresno State Bulldog fans showed tremendous interest in their local team.
The Bulldog Shop had a record sales year and a big part of that was due to on-line sales through the department's official web site, gobulldogs.com.
According to figures from CBS On-line, which is the host company for the web site, Fresno State's gross on-line sales increased an amazing 283 percent in 2008 compared to the previous year.
In addition, purchases of College World Series memorabilia and clothing through gobulldogs.com, compared favorably to other schools that won national championships. Four of the top 16 items sold via the internet were Fresno State items.
For instance Kansas dominated sales of Final Four items. Other schools leading in sales categories within the CBS family include Notre Dame, North Carolina, Penn State, Oklahoma and USC.
The most popular item purchased by Bulldog fans was the 2008 College World Series Championship official Nike T-shirt, which ranked 8th among the top 300 items sold.
Other Bulldog items ranking in the top 20 included:
- Red CWS Championship T-shirt
- White CWS Championship T-shirt
- Grey CWS Championship T-shirt
More than 1,300 items of each were sold on-line alone.
Other Fresno State items that ranked among the Top 300 items sold during 2008 included:
- 2008 College World Series National Championship Hat
- The Wisconsin Game Day Red T-short
- Bulldog Decal stickers
- Various other Bulldog baseball national championship T-shirts
The Bulldog Shop also saw strong on-line sales for the 2008 College World Series DVD set, youth T-shirts, Fresno State vs. UCLA Game Day T-shirts, and several varieties of Bulldog football T-shirts.
"Winning the College World Series meant merchandise sales started and soared in Omaha and that momentum propelled the Bulldog Shop to achieve these tremendous numbers," said Paul Ladwig, Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs. "But the addition of the our two new sports, Lacrosse and swimming and diving, also created a new fan base and developed new revenue streams as well"
