'Dogs Complete Day One at USC

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's golf team finished in 11th place on Monday at the USC Invitational. After two rounds the Stanford is leading the tournament with a two stroke lead over BYU. The Bulldogs played phenomenal in the first round and carded 288 but struggled in the second round with a 300 to finish 588 (50+).
Freshman Bhavik Patel led the Bulldogs at 1-under par 141 to tie for ninth place. Grant Doverspike shot a stellar 69 in the first round and his second round score was 75 to finish the day at 2-over par 144 and tie for 23rd place.
Bryan Hogan shot 8-over par 150 to tie for 50th. Brad Wyatt tied for 63rd carding a total of 153. Michael Gideon finished in 78th.
"Im very excited about Bhavik, he is playing great golf in only his second collegiate tournament and he's only a freshman," said head coach Mike Watney.
"Golf's such a mental game and I know our guys can do it, it's just about applying what we learn on the course."
The field was led by UCLA's Gregor Main. He recorded a 4-under 138 total to stay atop of the leader board. There was a six-way tie for second place at 3-under 139. This tie included, Andrew Putnam of Pepperdine, Brady Johnson and Jordan Hammer of BYU, Dodge Kemmer, Steve Ziegler and David Chung of Stanford.
The Bulldogs will finish the third and final round Tuesday with tee times beginning at 7:30 off of the first and 10th tee. For live scoring go to Golfstat. .

"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The Men's golf team will host their annual Fresno State Lexus Golf classic at Belmont Country Club on March 9-10. The Fresno State women's golf team will next compete at the 2008 Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational March 2-3.
