FRESNO, Calif.-The Bulldogs (308-315-300=923) completed the final round today at the 19th Annual Hawai'i-Hilo Invitational carding a final round total of 300 for team best during the tournament. Washington's Nick Taylor and USC claimed the top spots after the final round on the Kohala Coast.
Grant Doverspike led the Bulldog squad with a 222 (70-79-73) and was tied for 30th place. He was followed by Bhavik Patel (T74, 80-80-73=233), Bryan Hogan (T80, 77-84-74=235), Todd Angel (T91, 81-75-86=242) and Brain Sunker (97, 89-81-80=250). As an individual, Matt Ryan finished in a tie for 50th place with a 227 (72-81-74).
"We had some guys play a lot better today," said Head coach Mike Watney. "We still had some driving problems and the short game was not sharp."
"We'll take some of these decent scores and get to work. I'm glad we have a couple of weeks before the USC tournament. That golf course is also very tight so driving will be crucial," said Watney.
USC continued to have a dominant pace in the final day of the tournament for an 11-stroke margin of victory over second place Washington. The Trojans finished the tournament at 13-under par, 851. Washington was at 862 followed by Texas Christian (870), Stanford (872), Oregon (873), Colorado (874), Arizona State (875), Texas Tech (876), Georgia (879), Florida State and Oklahoma (890), UC Davis (892), Hawai'i-Hilo (910), Fresno State (923), Kansas (924), San Francisco (928) and Hawai'i Manoa (947).
