`Dogs Continue Tear Against Pepperdine

FRESNO, Calif. - Things continue to click for the No. 15 Fresno State women's tennis team, as it collected on a 6-1 victory over No. 56 Pepperdine on Monday in Malibu, Calif.
The Bulldogs have now won eight of their last nine matches.
Nobody has been as hot as senior Melanie Gloria during that stretch. The defending three-time WAC Player of the Year has won nine-straight matches during that span, including a 1-6, 6-3, (12-10) win over Pepperdine's Anamika Bhargava.
Junior Anastasia Petukhova took command early on and cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Alexandria Walters.
"I didn't give her any opportunities to improve her game," Petukhova said. "I made a lot more balls than she did."
Freshman Laura Pola clinched the match for the Bulldogs with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Tania Rice.
Also victorious for the Bulldogs, Tinesta Rowe beat Andrea Oates, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), and Bruna Paes defeated Marigrace Marshall, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles, No. 1 Renata Kucerkova and Petukhova recorded an 8-3 victory over Alex Lilies and Bhargava. No. 16 Gloria and Rowe defeated Alexandria Walters and Oates, 8-3. Pola and Paes also recorded an 8-3 victory over Rice and Danielle Thomasma.
The meeting with the Waves was the Bulldogs' third road match in four days.
"It was a good match, and we finished well," Petukhova said. "Although we traveled a lot, we proved we are a strong team."
Fresno State will next be in action on April 4 in a WAC-opening doubleheader against San Jose State and Nevada in Reno, Nev.. The Bulldogs return home on April 11 for a tripleheader against Louisiana Tech, Utah State and New Mexico State at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
