FRESNO, Calif.-The Fresno State women's golf team are tied for ninth place out of 18 teams after the first round of the UNLV Spring Invitational at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The Bulldogs shot a first round 323 to finish tied with Campbell.
The `Dogs were led by senior Taylor Siebert after shooting 35-over par as a team on Monday. Siebert is tied for 25th after firing a first round of 79.
Marta Silva of Georgia posted the only sub-par round of the day, firing a two-under 70 to grab the first round lead.
Lindi Covarrubias and Louisa Lies both tied for 39th while carding 81 in the first rounds. Chelsea Czinski tied for 48th shooting 10-over par 82. Hali Coppin posted a score of 83 (+11) to finish the day.
"The wind here is pretty intense and it got worse as the day went on," said head coach Angie Cates-Moore.
"I think the team is committed to going out and being competitive tomorrow. I am hoping that we bounce back and climb up the leaderboard by recording good solid scores."
"The field is tough and I am anxious to see where we stand at the conclusion of the tournament," said Cates-Moore.
Tulsa along with Tex Tech are atop of the team leaderboard posting a team total of 306 (+11), at third place is Oregon (311/+23) and top round off the top of the field is host, UNLV, and Georgia carding a score of 24-over par 312 to tie for fourth.
The Bulldogs will play 18 holes on Tuesday and finish with the third round on Wednesday. Both days will begin with 7:30 a.m. tee times off of holes 1 and 10.
