Fresno State Finishes Perfect Run

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 15 Fresno State completed a perfect run through the WAC on Saturday with an emphatic 6-1 victory over No. 36 Boise State in Las Cruces, N.M.
The Bulldogs went 8-0 in conference play, beating all eight WAC opponents by a combined score of 54-2. Five players had perfect 8-0 records in conference singles --Melanie Gloria, Anastasia Petukhova, Renata Kucerkova, Tinesta Rowe and Laura Pola.
No. 17 Gloria put the final touches on a campaign for a fourth-consecutive WAC Player of the Year, with a 6-4, 6-0 win over No. 81 Pichittra Thongdach.
Rowe capped off one of her finest weekends of the year by defeating the Broncos' Bianca Jochimsen, 6-1, 6-2.
"Tinesta really stepped it up today," head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "We are very proud of her."
No. 29 Petukhova clinched the match for the Bulldogs with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph over Lauren Megale.
No. 69 Kucerkova beat Vivien Silfany, 6-3, 6-7 (7-5), (10-6), and WAC Freshman of the Year candidate Pola knocked off Klaudia Wlodarczyk, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.
"We played well in the windy New Mexico conditions," Thibodeau said. "We are happy to sweep the WAC teams before heading into the conference championships."
In doubles, the top team in the country of Kucerkova and Petukhova defeated Thongdach and Megale, 8-5. No. 15 Gloria and Rowe sent away Wlodarczyk and Silfany, 8-4, and Danon Beatty and Pola capped of the sweep of doubles with an 8-6 win over Laura Baum and Jochimsen.
Fresno State finished the regular season with a 19-5 overall record and 8-0 in the WAC, heading into the WAC Tournament which runs from April 23-25 in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
