Round One Complete, 'Dogs in Third

FRESNO, Calif. -
After the first day of the 2009 Club Glove WAC Championships held at the 6,133-yard, par-72 Wolf Run Golf Club in Reno, Nev., the Fresno State women's golf team is in third place.
San Jose State took a 13-stroke lead over Idaho (298) after the first round of the championships. The Spartans shot a total of 285.
The Bulldogs shot a team total of 303 (+15) and every Bulldog player is in the Top 25 of the field. The 'Dogs are followed by New Mexico State, who shot a 305. Boise State is fifth at 307. In sixth is Nevada with a total of 308 and Hawaii is seventh with 319.
Louisa Lies leads Fresno State and sits in second place after shooting a two-under par 70 including five birdies. Lies also led the field in par five scoring. "Louisa played great today and really kept us in the mix," said head coach Angie Cates-Moore.
Sophomore Chelsea Czinski shares 15th after compiling a score of 5-over par 77. Both Hali Coppin and Lindi Covarrubias are tied for 20th after an 18 hole total of 77. Coppin is second on the team in birdies with four. Czinski and Covarrubias lead the team with 11 pars on the day. To round out the Bulldog lineup is senior Taylor Siebert. Siebert tied for 25th place, shooting 8-over par 80.
"We have some work to do but we feel good. This tournament is associated with a lot of great memories," said Cates-Moore.
The three-day tournament continues on Tuesday with second-round tee times beginning at 7:25 a.m.
