Cowboy Classic Complete, 'Dogs Take Fifth

FRESNO, Calif.-The seventh annual Cowboy Classic came to an end on Tuesday afternoon at Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. The event featured 20 teams and 118 individuals.
The Bulldogs carded a final round of 280 (team low). That final round gave the Fresno State a tournament total of 845 (+5) and put them in fifth place. The `Dogs compiled 49 birdies and 3 eagles as a team.
Individually, Bryan Hogan led the Bulldogs in the tournament. Hogan tallied a three-round scorecard of 208 (-2), which placed him in a tie for seventh and was the best performance of the season for him. Hogan had the best third round of anyone as he posted a 65. Hogan also led the field in par 3 scoring and had 11 birdies on the tournament.
Brian Sunker finished in the Top 20 of the field with a tie for 17th place. He carded a one-over par 211 and recorded two eagles. Grant Doverspike tied for 22nd in the tournament with a three-round total of 213 (+3). Doverspike led the tournament in par 5 scoring and also posted two eagles.
Bhavik Patel tied for 39th place compiling a 6-over par 216 total after three rounds of play. He led the `Dogs with 14 birdies. Todd Angel tied for 69th with an 11-over par 221 total. To round out the Bulldogs line-up, Michael Gideon posted a total of 12-over par 22 to tie for 73rd.
UC Davis won their third consecutive Cowboy Classic and did so in record-breaking style. The Aggies posted the best tournament finish in classic history, a 15-under par 825. They also had the best team round in the history of the classic on Tuesday, a 13-under par 267. Oregon State finished second (841, +1) and UTEP finished third (842, +2).
UC Davis', Austin Graham, won the tournament with a three-round total of 204 (-6). Oregon State's, Morten Madsen, finished second (205, -5), while UTEP's Roger Sloan and UC Davis', Nate Pistacchio, tied for third (206, -4).
After two hole-in-ones during Monday's second round, a third ace occurred on Tuesday. San Diego's Gunner Weibe was perfect on hole 16, which was third different hole were an ace was shot.
Next up for the Bulldog golf team will be one day of rest amd then the ASU Invitational on April 10-11 in Tempe, Ariz.
