Bulldogs Continue Nevada Series Tomorrow

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team exploded for seven home runs in the doubleheader against Nevada. Fresno State scored 13 of 15 runs off home runs. The Bulldogs lost both games to the Wolf Pack, 15-11 and 16-4.
Steve Detwiler's grand slam in the fifth inning is the third bases loaded home run Fresno State has hit this year.
The most home runs hit in a single game by the Bulldogs is six, last done in 2005. The `Dogs tallied 12 runs on 14 hits in Saturday's doubleheader.
Game 1: Nevada 15, Fresno State 11
Right Fielder Steve Detwiler made a great catch on the warning track preventing a Wolf Pack grand slam, but Nevada did get one across home plate taking the lead, 1-0, in the first inning.
Leadoff batter Danny Muno singled to pitcher and advanced to second base on a throwing error. Freshman Dusty Robinson knocked a two-run home run over the left field wall and the Bulldogs took the lead, 2-1. Robinson has seven home runs in 2009.
In the third inning, Isacc Vivas hit a single to left field. Vivas advanced to second base on a passed ball. Muno flew out in right field moving Vivas to third base. Robinson reached on a fielder's choice as Vivas was tagged out between third base and home plate.
First baseman Alan Ahmady hit his fourth home run of the year to center field extending the `Dogs lead, 4-1.
WAC Co-Pitcher of the Week Matt Morse got his seventh start this year. The junior sat down the Nevada batters in order in the top of the fourth inning. Morse threw 5 1/3 innings striking out two.
Nevada scored seven runs in the fifth inning taking the lead, 8-4.
Vivas opened the bottom of the fifth inning with Fresno State's third home run of the game and his first of the season as the `Dogs trail, 8-5. The first five runs were scored off a home run from a Bulldog.
Muno walked. Robinson singled up the middle advancing Muno to third base. Robinson moved to second base on a fielding error. Mendonca walked loading the bases for designated hitter Jake Johnson.
Johnson flew out in left field allowing Muno to score from third base and the `Dogs trail, 8-6.
Hedstrom walked to load the bases for the second time in the fifth inning. Detwiler hit a home run over the scoreboard in left field scoring four runs and the Bulldogs regain the lead. 10-8. It is the first grand slam for Detwiler and third of the season for Fresno State.
Zac Bischoff came out of the bullpen in relief in the sixth inning. Bischoff sat the Wolf Pack batters down 1-2-3 in the eighth inning.
The Wolf Pack scored five runs to take back the lead, 13-10, in the top of the sixth inning. Nevada added two runs in the seventh inning increasing their lead, 15-10.
Mendonca hit his 18th home run of the year well into in the parking lot in right center field and the `Dogs trail, 15-11.
The Wolf Pack took the first game of the doubleheader, 15-11.
Game 2: Nevada 16, Fresno State 4
Second baseman Danny Muno opened the second game with a walk. Muno stole second base, his 12th stolen base this year.
Nevada took a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo home run.
The Bulldog infield turned their 36th double play in the third inning.
The Wolf Pack scored two runs in the fourth inning increasing their lead, 3-0.
Freshman Brennan Gowens hit a solo home run to left field, his second of the season. The Bulldogs trail, 3-1, in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Nevada answered with a run in the sixth inning leading, 4-1.

Shortstop Isacc Vivas made a great stop and then threw the Nevada runner out at home plate preventing the Wolf Pack from increasing their lead.
The Wolf Pack scored eight runs in the top of the sixth inning leading, 8-1. Nevada scored eight runs taking a 16-1 after eight innings.
Pinch hitter Jordan Ribera reached base on a fielding error. Ribera advanced to third when Nick Hom grounded out at first base. Ribera scored on a passed ball and the `Dogs trail 16-2.
Johnson singled to up the middle. The next at bat Gavin Hedstrom hit a two-run home run as Fresno State trailed 16-4.

The Bulldogs will conclude their four-game series against Nevada tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1:05 p.m.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The `Dogs return to Beiden Field as they host WAC rival Nevada May 1-3. The `Dogs and Wolfpack square off for a single game Friday at 6:05 pm, a doubleheader starting at 2:05 pm Saturday and wrap up the series Sunday at 1:05 pm. Saturday's game features a Community Food Bank food drive. Sunday is Youth Baseball Day and all youth baseball players are invited to take the field for the National Anthem.
