43 Bulldogs Earn Academic All-WAC Honors

FRESNO, Calif. - The Western Athletic Conference announced its fall sports honorees for the 2009-10 academic all-WAC teams. Student-athletes from men's and women's cross country, football, soccer and volleyball teams and 43 Bulldogs were honored for their academics.
"It's not surprising to see so many student-athletes earning academic honors," said Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Services Dr. Susan Gutkind. "Our coaches and our department have worked hard to create an academic climate from the beginning of the recruiting process all the way through where student-athletes know they are expected to do their best in the classroom and graduate."
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
The Bulldogs football team continues academic excellence after a record 18 student-athletes earned honors this fall. The football team also had two Academic All-Americans and Moses Harris was a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy.
The Bulldog soccer team had 10 players named to the Academic All-WAC team and volleyball added five players to the Academic All-WAC list.
The Bulldog men's and women's cross country teams combined to have 10 Academic All-WAC honorees.
A total of 312 student-athletes from the WAC were named to the list for the fall.
