Ross Named WAC Player of the Week

FRESNO, Calif. - For the second time this season and the fifth time in her career Fresno State junior guard Jaleesa Ross has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 18-24.
Ross, a Pinole, Calif. (Pinole Valley) native, averaged 25.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals in a pair of conference wins last week to keep Fresno State atop the WAC standings as the only remaining undefeated team in league play at 6-0 and 15-5 overall. She shot 53 percent from the field (17-of-32) and 52 percent (12-of-23) from three-point range in wins over then-undefeated Nevada and third-place Louisiana Tech.
In the win at Nevada, she had a game-high 20 points to go along with six rebounds. Against Louisiana Tech, she had 31 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. She drained six three-pointers in both contests, tying her season high.
Other nominees included: Tasha Harris of Boise State averaged 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals in a pair of wins ... New Mexico State's Crystal Boyd averaged 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds on the week ... Samantha Marez of San Jose State averaged 13.5 points and 3.5 rebounds as the Spartans snapped an 18-game WAC losing skid ... Utah State's Alice Coddington averaged 13.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game on the week.
"We Are Your Team" - The `Dogs continue WAC play Wednesday night as the Boise State Broncos come to the Save Mart Center at 8 p.m. It's Faculty/Staff Night and all Fresno State faculty/staff will receive FREE admission with ID and can also receive $2 admission for up to four guests.
