Dogs Take the Field

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team begins their quest for their fifth WAC Title and look to make their fifth straight NCAA Regional appearance. The Dogs held their first official practice of the 2010 season this afternoon at Pete Beiden Field.
All 32 members of the team including 21 returners and 11 newcomers hit the field after classes. The Bulldogs return five starters from the 2009 team. The team started out with warm-ups and then moved on to taking infield, outfield, working on defense and ended practice with batting practice.
The Dogs are led by Preseason All-Americans Dusty Robinson and Danny Muno. Robinson was named a 2009 Freshman All-American after a monstrous first year hitting .319 with 15 homeruns. Muno led the team in batting average (.379), hits (85), runs (74), doubles (25) and stolen bases (13).
Collegiate Baseball released its Fabulous 40 preseason poll and Fresno State ranked 33rd with 417 votes. The Bulldogs are the only Western Athletic Conference school that made the top 40 teams in the preseason poll.
In 2010, the Bulldogs face two opponents (Cal State Fullerton and San Diego) ranked in the top 30 by Baseball America. The Dogs also take on 11 opponents from the Pac-10, Big West, West Coast and Big 12 conferences before defending their WAC title.

Fans will get the chance to meet and greet with the 2010 baseball team at the annual "Meet the Team" event on Feb. 6 at 4:30 p.m. The event is at the River Park Promenade and is a chance for cans to get autographs from the team.
Under three weeks remain until the season opener against Nebraska. Don't miss the first pitch of the 2010 season on Feb. 19 at 6:05 p.m. at Beiden Field.
"We Are Your Team" - The `Dogs begin the quest for their fifth consecutive WAC title and NCAA Tournament berth Friday, February 19, at 6 p.m. as they welcome the Nebraska Cornhuskers to Beiden Field.
