Dogs Ride 3-Match Win Streak into Homestand

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs' fighting spirit will be on full display when Western Athletic Conference rival Nevada and Utah State visit the Save Mart Center this week.
Fresno State, currently on a three-match winning streak, will host the Wolf Pack on Alumni and Centennial Night on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. and finish the homestand on Saturday night against the Aggies.
Brand Becoming WAC's Best Double-Double Machine
Sophomore Marissa Brand exudes a reserved, but passionate confidence and continues to make significant strides after a stellar freshman season. Brand has helped sparked Fresno State's three-match winning streak behind the power of three consecutive double-doubles. On the season, she is tied for the WAC lead with a career-best nine double-doubles.
About the Nevada Wolf Pack
The Nevada Wolf Pack are 11-11 on the season and 5-4 against WAC opponents. Nevada won the season's first match in Reno, 3-1, on Oct. 2 and leads the all-time series, 19-18.
About the Utah State Aggies
The Utah State Aggies are 15-7 this year and 3-6 against WAC opponents. Utah State won the season's first match in Logan, 3-0, on Sept. 30, and leads the all-time series, 10-7.
Bulldogs Surge Back into WAC Contention on the Road
The Fresno State volleyball surged to fifth place in the WAC standings with a pair of conference road victories at San Jose State (3-1) and Boise State (3-2). The top six schools in the 2010 final regular season WAC standings qualify for the single-elimination competition with the tournament champion earning an automatic bid into the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
WAC Tournament All-Session Tickets On Sale, Returns to Las Vegas
All-session tickets for the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament, which returns to the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas Nov. 22-24, are on sale now for $45 through The Bulldog Ticket Office or online at www.gobulldogs.com. All tickets are for general admission seating. Single-session tickets will not be available for purchase until Nov. 22 and can only be purchased through the Orleans Arena.
Bulldogs Hold Best WAC Mark in Five-Set Thrillers
The Fresno State volleyball team relishes pressure situations and competitive battles. The Bulldogs sport a WAC-best 4-0 record this season in five-set contests with a pair of victories Boise State (twice), CSU Bakersfield and Sacramento State. The `Dogs have won five consecutive five-set battles dating back to a 2009 WAC Quarterfinal win over the Nevada Wolf Pack. The Bulldogs are the only remaining unbeaten WAC team this year in five-set matches. Fresno State last dropped a five-set contest on Nov. 17, 2009 at CSU Bakersfield.
Fresno State's Centennial Celebration in Full Swing Founded in 1911, Fresno State will celebrate its 100th anniversary during the 2010-11 academic year. The campus community will hold several special events during the year and the Fresno State Athletics Department will host a Centennial event for each of its 19 sports. The Bulldog volleyball Centennial celebration will be Oct. 28 against longtime rival Nevada. The event will serve as a reunion for all former players.
Volleyball Team Earns AVCA Academic Award for 2009-10 Season
The American Volleyball Coaches Association recognized the Fresno State volleyball program as the only Western Athletic Conference volleyball team to earn their academic honor in 2009-10, averaging at least a 3.30 grade point average. The AVCA announced that 450 teams earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2009-10 season. This award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom.
"We Are Your Team!" -- After a four-match road trip, the Bulldogs will celebrate Fresno State's Centennial on Oct. 28 versus Nevada and finish the homestand against Utah State on Oct. 30. Both matches start at 7 p.m. in the Save Mart Center.
