FRESNO, Calif. -
This Saturday Team Smile is celebrating its fourth consecutive year partnering up with Fresno State Athletics to raise awareness about dental hygiene and provide free dental treatment to the underserved children of Fresno. The Team Smile event will be held on Saturday, October 9 from 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the South Gym at Fresno State.
Every season, a group of over 50 dental professionals come together at Fresno State to volunteer their time in order to reach as many children as possible to provide quality dental care and education.
Team Smile day was brought to Fresno State four years ago when former Bulldog football player Mike Stovall found his calling and decided to give back to the community that supported him so much. Stovall left Fresno State in 2001 and he then became a dental rep for Sullivan-Schein. Stovall has found his niche in working for this Fortune 500 company that has been rated No. 1 for social responsibility for the last four years.
The former Bulldog offensive lineman is utilizing his opportunities to give back to the community. After over a year of planning, Stovall and Bulldog team dentist Xavier Gutierrez, Team Smile Day was brought to Fresno State. It was an event where local dentists in the area provided free oral care for children who otherwise might not be able to afford dental treatment.
Team Smile, Inc. exists to use the power of professional and collegiate sports partnerships to bring children in need together with volunteer dentists, dental professionals, dental suppliers, and other members of the dental community to provide a high quality dental experience and promote their access to ongoing dental care.
Student-athletes, cheerleaders, and Time Out will all be making special appearances in the gym throughout the day.
