FRESNO, Calif. - All stories eventually have to reach its final page and Fresno State's four seniors - Lauren Berger, Kelly Mason, Meghan Moss and Kasey Van Grouw - finished their Bulldog careers in style on a night where the Dogs smothered San Jose State from start to finish for a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15 and 25-23) victory in the 2010 season finale.
A pre-match ceremony honored each of the graduating seniors and Moss returned to the floor for the first time this season after suffering serious knee injury on the second day of summer camp.
In a highlight of the seniors' stats on their last night in the Bulldog uniform, Mason captured the team's most cherished award as the season's "Fighting Spirit" winner, Van Grouw tossed up 38 assists in the three set sweep and Berger launched four kills.
Sophomore sensation Marissa Brand continued her dominance on the outside with 14 kills (4.6 kps) and six digs while juniors Brianna Clarke (13 kills, .632 hitting, six blocks) and Kelli Parker (12 kills and six digs) also shined.
Fresno State (13-15, 7-9 WAC) improved their hitting percentage to .197, 17 points higher than a .180 performance in 2009.
The celebration of the senior class comes at a moment when the seniors helped build the foundation for a program ready to move to its next chapter.
