FRESNO, Calif. - The holiday season is upon us and that means the semester is coming to a close and finals are on every students mind. Fresno State student-athletes were able to take out of their busy schedules and compete against other teams. Athletes were able to partake in ping pong, cornhole, hot dog eating contest and a flip cup competition in the North Gym.
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted the 2010 "Winter Olympics" for the student-athletes to take a break from studying and their busy schedules and relax and play some fun games.
Teams that participated in the festivities included equestrian, women's tennis, soccer, track and field, women's golf and staff from the Athletic Department.
Highlight moments from the afternoon of fun included freshman, Laura Lindstrom, from women's soccer who ate four hot dogs in two minutes. In the final round of ping pong, the women's golf team took on the guys from track and field and earned the gold medal.
The closest contest came in the cornhole competition when the staff and women's soccer team were neck-to-neck the whole round. In the end with the last couple bean bag tosses the staff pulled ahead and won the gold.
"Every semester SAAC puts on an event to get all the athletes together to hang out and relax outside of school and practice and their crazy schedules," said SAAC member and organizer of the Winter Olympics, Callie Seidman. "In the past we've never had the greatest turnouts for the fall events but we wanted to make it extra fun and big this year."
This was the first time the SAAC has done the "Winter Olympics."
"This was the biggest turnout we've ever had and it went great," said Seidman.
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes and serves as a liaison between the student-athletes and the athletic administration, promote intra-sport support, create opportunities for service to the community and ultimately provide a forum for student-athletes to voice their ideas and suggestions to enhance the collegiate athletic experience at Fresno State.
