Bulldogs Take Winning Streak On The Road
Beginning with Wednesday's match-up at Cal State Bakersfield, Fresno State is hitting the road for a lengthy three-week stay. The Bulldogs, winners of three consecutive games, picked up a huge dose of momentum with last week's 75-72 come-from-behind victory against TCU. Fresno State rallied from a 14-point second-half deficit, and senior point guard Emma Andrews nailed a 3-pointer with 16 seconds remaining to seal the win for Fresno State. Sophomore forward Rosie Moult led the Bulldogs with a career-high 23 points.
Scouting The Roadrunners
Cal State Bakersfield wrapped up a six-game road trip with an 86-61 loss to Miami on Sunday. Junior forward Jana Smith earned her first start of the season and finished with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting for the Runners, which trailed by as many as 23 points. Wednesday's game against Fresno State is Cal State Bakersfield's first home game since beating Dominican University 97-44 on Nov. 12. Amber Williams and Britney McGee lead the Runners in scoring at 12.9 ppg. Fresno State leads the all-time series with Cal State Bakersfield 3-0, including a 64-54 win last season.
Emma's Triumphant Return
Senior point guard Emma Andrews returned to the Fresno State lineup for the first time since undergoing right knee surgery last spring in Fresno State's 75-72 win over TCU last week. Andrews scored six points -- and hit the game-winning bucket -- in 19 minutes of playing time. She also had four assists and one steal.
Arnold Gets The Nod
Senior forward Marnique Arnold may have called her initial move to the starting lineup against UC Irvine a "trial run," but from all appearances, she is intent on keeping the spot. Arnold has started the past five games for the Bulldogs and is averaging 9.8 points and 5.1 rebounds this season. Against the Anteaters, Arnold couldn't miss. She was 10-for-13 from the floor for a career-high 23 points. Her 10 rebounds were a season high.
Bulldogs Ink Three For 2011-12
Fresno State signed three players to national letters of intent, coach Adrian Wiggins announced. Madison Parrish (Hanford, Calif./Hanford HS), Raven Fox (Antioch, Calif./Deer Valley HS) and Saidah Allen (Oakland, Calif. /Piedmont HS) will all join the Bulldogs for the 2011-12 season. Parrish is considered one of the premier point guards in Valley history. She led Hanford to its third consecutive Central Section title last season, averaging 14.8 points, 7.2 assists, 4.5 steals and 3.4 rebounds. Fox averaged 16.1 points and 3.6 steals per game as a junior at Deer Valley High, and Allen scored 22.3 points per game last season at Piedmont.
Fresno State Picked To Win WAC, Again
Given the way the Bulldogs have performed in the WAC recently, perhaps it's no surprise they were selected to win the conference title again this year. Fresno State, winners of three consecutive WAC championships, collected seven of nine first-place votes in the recent coaches' preseason poll and 14 of 18 in the media poll. Fresno State, La Tech and Nevada were the top three-rated teams in both polls. Senior guard Jaleesa Ross was selected as the preseason player of the year.
Ross' Record Watch
Senior guard Jaleesa Ross, the Preseason WAC Player of the Year, heads into her final season with her sights set on a number of prestigious marks. One of the best 3-point shooters in the nation, Ross has made 305 3-pointers during her career and currently sits in third place in the WAC for 3-point field goals made. Already Fresno State's leader in that category, Ross is 88 away from becoming the NCAA's all-time leader for 3-pointers made. Former Kansas State guard Laurie Koehn holds the current record with 392 treys. Ross made 103 last season.
Ross' Record Watch Part II
Jaleesa Ross is also threatening to become Fresno State's all-time leading scorer. She has already amassed 1,568 points in her career and is currently in fourth place on the Fresno State all-time scoring list. She needs 47 more points to pass Wendy Martell (1,595) and move into third place and 211 to leap to the top of the list, surpassing Yvette Roberts (1,778 points).
Fresno State Gets Offensive Against Sacramento State
The Bulldogs put on an offensive show during their 120-93 victory over Sacramento State on Nov. 14. The team's 120-point scoring output was the second-highest in program history. Fresno State scored 129 points against Baylor in 1989. The Bulldogs did set a new standard by attempting 45 3-point field goals against the Hornets, though. The 2008-09 squad held the previous mark with 41 attempts vs. Sacramento State. The Bulldogs have hit a 3-pointer in 106 consecutive games.
Bulldogs Shatter Record Books in 2010
The Bulldogs set many school records over the course of last season. Here is a look at the records that were broken.
- 27 wins in a season, previous record was 24
- 19 straight wins, previous record was nine
- 16-0 in WAC play, previous best record was 14-2
- earned program's first-ever at large berth to the NCAA tournament
