FRESNO, Calif. - Rosie Moult had a career-high 20 points and the Fresno State Bulldog women's basketball team earned its largest margin of victory over an opponent in a WAC game by beating Idaho, 85-38 on Wednesday night at the Save Mart Center.
"We are very pleased with the effort tonight," Fresno State coach Adrian Wiggins said. "I thought the team came out with a great effort, attitude and really shared the ball well against a team that has been very good. If you look at Idaho's scores they have beat Nevada, which is the second-place team in our league, played Louisiana Tech to overtime and they have played everybody to within 10 points or less. So I was pleased with our effort. I felt like we played good basketball in a lot of phases of the game."
Fresno State is off to its best start in program history with its 19-5 record and a 10-0 record in WAC. The team has won a school-record 11 straight games.
"This win gives us as much confidence as any win we have had this year," Wiggins said. "That sounds strange considering Idaho's record but we understand that they are a lot better team than their record. So we have a lot of respect for them and their program so to beat them by that many points is just a great compliment."
The Bulldogs had four players in double figures led by Moult's 20 points on eight of 12 shooting from the field. She hit four 3-pointers in 23 minutes of play.
"We feel like she is a difficult player to guard, mostly because she can guard you," Wiggins said. "The thing about Rosie is that she is going to be a very good player off the dribble as well. She really reminds me of Jaleesa early on. Jaleesa early on didn't score a lot off the dribble. But now she can score about anyway she wants to and you saw some flashes of that with Rosie tonight."
Jaleesa Ross scored 16 points and hit four 3-pointers to go along with a career-high nine assists. Ross is now 11 3-pointers away from breaking the school record for 3-pointers made in a career. Hayley Munro had 13 points and five rebounds while Joh-Teena Filipe had 10 points.
The Bulldogs shot 57 percent from the field while Idaho was held to 27 percent shooting. Fresno State had 27 assists and forced 19 Vandal turnovers. Fresno State never trailed in the game and the teams' largest lead was 48 with 35 seconds left in the game.
Fresno State led 42-24 at halftime and then opened the second half on a 31-6 run to lead 73-30 with 8:12 left in the game. The biggest margin of the night was 85-37 after a free throw by Ali Drennan.
"We Are Your Team"- The Bulldogs return to the Save Mart Center for a 5 p.m. contest on Saturday against New Mexico State. For ticket information click on the tickets link at the top of the page.
