Dogs Look to Stay Hot, Vandals Visit Saturday

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State Bulldogs continue their run to Reno for the 2010 WAC Tournament when the Idaho Vandals visit the Save Mart Center on Saturday night at approximately 7 p.m. or 30 minutes following the Fresno State-NMSU women's game.
The `Dogs started the week by winning their second straight game with a crushing 83-64 win over the then WAC leaders New Mexico State and were sparked by Paul George's career-high 30 points. Fresno State has won eight of their past nine home games and sport a 10-3 mark in the Save Mart Center this season.

George Joins 30-Point Club in Sparkling Return
After missing the past four and a half games with a right ankle injury, sophomore forward Paul George, who had previously notched 29 points in three separate games, joined Fresno State's 30-Point Club with a career-high 30 points on 8 of 19 shooting (5-13 from beyond the 3-point arc) and added seven rebounds paired with three assists to lead Fresno State to their WAC win over NMSU. He also converted all nine of his free throw attempts. George is the team's leading scorer (17.6 ppg), rebounder (7.3 rpg) and steals producer (2.5 spg). Last fall, George was named the West's Most Entertaining Player by SI.com.
Golubovic Earns Back-to-Back CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors
Junior forward Nedeljko Golubovic became a two-time ESPN the Magazine/CoSida Academic All-District winner and earned an exclusive spot on the Academic All-American ballot. Golubovic (of Pjevlja, Serbia) is majoring in Psychology and sports a cumulative 3.86 grade point average, the highest of honorees along the West Coast. Golubovic was again the only University Division student-athlete from a California college. Last year, he became the first student-athlete in program history to earn the academic distinction.
Cleveland Ties Colson for 6th All-Time in Bulldog Wins
The hard work of head coach Steve Cleveland, his staff and student-athletes has earn academic accolades, yet the progress on the floor is also reshaping the program. With the Dogs' 83-64 victory over NMSU, Cleveland tied Gary Colson for 6th place on the all-time wins list by Bulldog head men's basketball coaches with 76 career victories at Fresno State.
LAST WEEK: `Dogs Sweep Warriors, Bury Aggies
As winners in their last two Western Athletic Conference games, Fresno State pulled within a half game of fourth-place Nevada after a gusty road effort solidified a 61-51 victory against Hawai'i and crushing then first-place New Mexico State 83-64 back in the San Joaquin Valley. On the Islands, sophomore Mike Ladd scored a team-high 18 points to lead four `Dogs in double figures for the tenth time this season. The three others were Greg Smith (16), Sylvester Seay (13) and Steven Shepp (11). Back in Fresno on Thursday night, the Bulldogs turned to one of their team leaders, Paul George, to fuel a dominating showcase where George netted a career-high 30 points, Sylvester Seay passed the 900-point milestone as a Bulldog and point guard Steven Shepp dished out nine assists, forced three steals and yielded zero turnovers. As a team, Fresno State drained 18 of 21 (86%) free throw attempts, their second highest this season, and the Aggies out of first-place in the WAC standings.
About the Idaho Vandals
The Idaho Vandals, a member of the Western Athletic Conference, are 11-12 overall on the season (5-7 on the road) and 3-8 in league action for seventh place in the WAC standings entering the week. Mac Hopson leads the Vandals with an average of 14.5 ppg.
Against the Idaho Vandals
Fresno State and Idaho are tied 6-6 in the overall series between the schools after UI won 74-59 earlier this season in Moscow. The Bulldogs have won four of the five contests against the Vandals in Fresno, Calif. and own a 3-1 mark against Idaho in the Save Mart Center.

Bulldogs Ready to Make Run in Experienced and Talented WAC
Cleveland and the Bulldogs know that conference play is the most important time of the year. Fresno State bolted out to 3-0 conference start with wins over Boise State, Hawai'i and San Jose State. After gaining some valuable road experience, pounding the Nevada Wolf Pack, finishing a season sweep of Hawai'i and crushing NMSU, the Bulldogs sit a half game back of fourth place in the league action. The WAC returned eight of 10 2008-09 All-WAC honorees, including Fresno State senior forward Sylvester Seay, for this season.
UCSB Coming to Town for ESPNU BracketBuster
Head Coach Steve Cleveland and the Bulldog men's basketball team will host the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. PT. The game will be part of a Fresno State doubleheader in the Save Mart Center on Feb. 20, as the first-place Bulldog women's basketball team will face Nevada at 5 p.m. The ESPNU BracketBusters concept, named because of the success of teams from these conferences in NCAA Tournament play through the years, provides participating programs with an opportunity to play top non-conference opponents about three weeks before Selection Sunday. Each conference selected its participating teams before the season, and the matchups for the event were determined by ESPN in conjunction with the conferences.
