No. 10 Dogs Fall at NMSU

FRESNO, Calif. - Coming off a five-match winning streak, the Bulldog equestrian team went on the road to face the nation's No. 9-ranked team.
Despite some strong rides, the No. 10-ranked Bulldogs lost to New Mexico State 11-7 in Las Cruces, N.M.
Four of Fresno State's 11 losses were by 1-point or less.
"We had some good rides but overall it just wasn't our day," said head coach Dr. Becky Malmo. "We were pleased with the strong scores in a lot of our events but we lost some close matches."
The Bulldogs won three of five matches in the equitation over fences, led by Jennifer Jory, Holly Elsbernd and Jessica Kissell. Lisa Wells, the nation's top-ranked rider, had a strong score of 84 by lost her match to Brianna Raab.
Bulldog Lauren Carr won Fresno State's lone match on the flat. Kimberly Steinbuch, who's been tearing up the arena in recent weeks, had a 78 and tied Raab. Kissell posted a score of 79, but lost to MVP Jennifer Friend. Caitlin Marshall lost her match by one points, 76-75, to Marisa Bernal.
In Western events, the Dogs earned three wins and tie.
Senior captain Keri Blackledge and freshman Sydney Coletti won matches in Reining while Christa Beezley won Fresno State's only match in Western Horsemanship. Sammie Jo Stone picked up a tie in horsemanship with a score of 71.
The Bulldogs are off for a few weeks before returning to action for their final home match of the season against No. 2 Auburn and No. 6 Kansas State March 13-14 at the Student Horse Center.
