FRESNO, Calif. - It's unfortunate that one of Fresno State's worst performances of the season came at one of the toughest tournaments. The Bulldogs shot 43-over par over three rounds to place 15th at the U.S. Intercollegiate at the Stanford Golf Club.
The Bulldogs did improve three spots during the final round thanks to solid play from 2009 WAC Player of the Year Grant Doverspike (69), Bhavik Patel (71) and Michael Gideon (72). The Dogs shot a final round of 286, 21 shots better than their first round score of 307.
"We just didn't play like we are capable," said head coach Mike Watney. "We came in very excited about the possibilities but we didn't play well. We still have a chance to finish the season strong. I'm glad we have one more tournament before the WAC championships."
Doverspike (77-70-69--216) tied for 38th place and finished at six over par. He made 10 birdies over the three rounds of the tournament.
Patel (77-71-71--219) was three shots behind and tied for 44th place and Gideon (75-76-72--223) tied for 68th at 13 over par. Gideon's final round included three birdies and an eagle on the Par 5 500-yard 16th hole.
Adam Barkow (78-73-74--225) tied for 76th and Bryan Hogan (79-76-76--231) finished T91.
"We are Your Team" The Bulldog men's golf team concludes the 2010 regular season at the BYU Cougar Classic April 23-24 in Provo, Utah.
