Bulldogs, Broncos Battle for WAC Title

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State battled No. 43 Boise State to the end in a dramatic championship match of the 2010 WAC Tournament, with the Broncos coming away with a narrow 4-3 victory on Sunday at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
"Boise State played very well and deserved to win today," Fresno State head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "We played hard and came close, but you have to give credit to the Broncos for an excellent season. We're a young team and we'll stay positive and continue to improve."
The Bulldogs came out strong and won the doubles point.
Fresno State's duo of Anastasia Petukhova and Julia Gragera-Cano defeated the Broncos' Elyse Edwards and Bianca Jochimsen, 8-4. Laura Pola and Renata Kucerkova secured the doubles point by upsetting the Broncos' 45th-ranked duo of Pichittra Thongdach and Lauren Megale, 8-6.
Freshman Melissa McQueen picked up a singles win for the Bulldogs, as she knocked off the Broncos' Stephanie Jasper, 6-0, 6-2.
The 14th-ranked Petukhova beat Megale in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
After the tournament was completed, two Bulldog singles - Petukhova and Kucerkova - and two Fresno State doubles teams - Petukhova and Gragera-Cano and Kucerkova and Pola - were named to the 2010 WAC All-Tournament team.
