FRESNO, Calif. - Victor E. Bulldog, Fresno State's spirited and beloved live mascot, shined across the silver screen as the star in an ADDY award-winning appearance for Pet ER's first television commercial.
"It's great to have had our Victor E. commercial recognized," Dr. Kelly Weaver said of the honor. "It's extra special for us to get an acknowledgment as this was our very first Pet ER commercial. It's nice getting a nod on your maiden voyage."
Through collaboration between Bulldog Sports Properties (BSP), a property of Learfield Sports and the exclusive multimedia rights holder of Fresno State Athletics, Pet ER worked with Maverick Marketing to handle the production and editing of the video.
"Victor E. is a special Bulldog and we are proud he represents our student-athletes and coaches with class, tenacity and a loveable affection for all of our fans," Associate Athletics Director Paul Ladwig said. "He embodies the true spirit of Fresno State Athletics and the story of the San Joaquin Valley. We are thrilled Pet ER and Victor E. were recognized with such a prestigious award."
The commercial was highlighted during broadcasts on the Bulldog Sports Network.
"The commercial was extra special to us because we created it for BSN broadcasts and were able to add some special Fresno State touches," Dr. Weaver added. "With Victor E. as the star of the show, it really made for a great day of filming! Our special thanks go out to Lance Gerlach (of Bulldog Sports Properties) for being the reluctant hero in our piece! Thanks Lance!"
The friendship between the Pet ER staff, Victor E. and Fresno State Athletics started back in 2005 and continued to foster with the official opening of Pet ER in 2007.
"The first time I met Victor E Bulldog was at the competition where he was chosen as the live mascot," Dr. Weaver said. "He was just a puppy and eager to be a star even then. Once we opened Pet ER in 2007 and became a sponsor of Fresno State Athletics, we began working closely with Victor E at Bulldog Blvd before the home football games. He is such a ham, getting him to pose for pictures with his fans is as easy as can be!"
Dr. Weaver and her staff, including numerous Fresno State students and alumni, have bonded with Victor E., his family and friends that have made the experience rewarding for all parties.
"Over the past couple of years we have become very close with Victor E. and his human family as well as Fresno State athletics and BSP," Dr. Weaver reflected. "Victor E. comes and spends time at the hospital before his big games so he can have a spa day and be ready to shine! He's all about looking his best and getting all the belly rubs he can before he has to get serious at game time. Victor E. and his mom Dana are definitely Pet ER family and there isn't anything we wouldn't do for either of them. They are both very special individuals who are as dedicated to help promote and support Fresno State as we are."
In the hot summer months approaching, Dr. Weaver and Victor E. want to remind the Red Wave to take extra steps to care for your loyal animal friends.
"As an added concern we'd really like to remind people that the hot months are now upon us, and that pets and heat don't mix," Dr. Weaver noted. "Please take precautions ahead of time to avoid your pet becoming another victim of our Valley's heat!"
