Cross Country Opens Season At Twilight Meet In Reno

RENO, Nev. - The Fresno State men's and women's cross country teams opened the season at the 2010 Jim Vanden Heuvel Twilight Meet on Friday at Shadow Mountain Park in Reno, Nev.
The men's team finished in third place, gaining 52 points, with Eric Battles finishing sixth in the 6k race. Battles was the top men's finisher with a time of 20:32, while Danny Vartanian finished seventh with a time of 20:35.
Rounding out the top 10 finishers was Carson Keller, who finished the race in a time of 20:47. Stanford won the race with 34 points, while UC Riverside finished second with 37 points.
The Fresno State women's team finished in fourth place in the 4k race with 72 points. Saylah Barserian was the top finisher for the Bulldogs, posting a time of 16:08, good enough for ninth place.
Rounding out the top 20 was Marrijteje Molenhuis in 14th with a time of 16:28, Carina Mendoza in 16th place with a time of 16:44, Chloe Allen in 18th with a time of 16:50 and Kristen Galvez finished 20th with a time of 16:53.
Stanford won the event with 27 points, while UC Riverside finished second with 45 points and Nevada was third with 71 points.
Up next for both teams is the Asics Invitational on Sept. 11, hosted by UC Irvine in Irvine, Calif.
