FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State swimming and diving team continued to make waves in 2011 and secured a pair of dual meet victories on Saturday afternoon at the Bakersfield Quad.
The Dogs beat UC San Diego 169-129 and Cal State Bakersfield 207-91 to mark Fresno State's third and fourth dual meet of the 2010-11 season. The Bulldogs also fell to No. 24 San Diego State (178-119).
Fresno State improved to 4-5 overall this season and 3-1 over the past four dual meets.
"I am pretty happy with how we swam today," the Bulldogs' third-year head coach Jeanne Fleck said. "We had some really good things happen. I was pleased with our individual winners and especially proud of our divers, who were without their diving coach."
In the swimming events, three Bulldogs earned three first-place individual finishes - Rayanne Nguyen (200 Fly - 2:07.30), Dani Yoho (50 Free - 23.89) and Olympic Trial qualifier Michelle Dockendorf (200 Breast - 2:21.36). The Dogs' 400-yard freestyle relay team of Brooke Fuller, Heidi Gjoen, Stephanie Hatayama and Dani Yoho also cruised to an event win (3.34.09).
On the diving boards, Fresno State went 2-3-4 on the 1-meter springboard and 2-4-5 on the 3-meter springboard with Stacey Luke, Kendra Weeks and Hannah Prigge each recording season-best scores.
The Bulldogs' head diving coach Taryn Patrick missed the meet due to a family health emergency.
"We are a better team at this point this year than last year and today was a positive step for us," Fleck added.
Fresno State hosts Loyola Marymount and San Diego next Friday and Saturday in the Valley Invitational at Clovis North High School for the final home meet of the season and Senior Day on Jan. 21-22.
The Dogs will wear pink swim caps for Breast Cancer Awareness Weekend and encourage fans to bring new and gently worn shoes to donate to "Soles 4 Souls." Admission is free both days of competition.
