FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State makes a big splash in the Athletics and Kinesiology department with the completion of the brand new Aquatics Center. The complex's dedication is being held on Friday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m., the eve of the Fresno State swimming and diving 2011-12 season debut in the competition pool.
The facility is a brand new, state-of-the-art swimming and diving complex that will benefit Fresno State Athletics and the Kinesiology department, offering a full size competition pool, diving facilities, and will serve as an aquatics teaching venue for Kinesiology.
The gates will open at 3:30 p.m. and the first 150 fans to attend the dedication will receive full-size Fresno State beach towels they can use all season long as they support the 'Dogs. This event is open to the public and the admission is free.
President Welty will start the dedication at 4 p.m., followed by Andrew Hoff of Kinesiology, Director of Athletics Thomas Boeh and Fresno State swimming and diving head coach Jeanne Fleck. There will be a water rescue exhibition, a diving exhibition, and a swimming exhibition.
Facility tours will be available immediately following the presentations. The tours will be led by Fresno State swimmers and divers along with Kinesiology students. A BBQ is also available for those attending the dedication that will begin at 5 p.m.
The Aquatics Center provides the Fresno State swimming and diving team a permanent home for practice and competitions on campus. The complex also serves as an aquatics teaching venue for the Kinesiology department offering aquatics-related classes: swimming for beginners, water aerobics, lifeguarding and more.
The Fresno State swimming and diving team will make their 2011-12 season debut in on Saturday, Oct. 22 at noon against Fresno Pacific. The swim meet is free admission and provides the fans with a large number of spectator seats.
