FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's Stacey Luke, finished 5th in the 1-meter dive after the first day of competition at the USC Diving Invitational.
Junior Luke and sophomore Hannah Prigge both competed in the 1-meter diving event delivering consistent dives throughout the competition.
"I am proud of both of them," said head diving coach Taryn Patrick. "They did a really great job and were very consistent with their dives today."
In the prelims, Luke placed third with a 249.85 out of 25 divers, easily finding her a spot in the top 12 to compete in the finals. Prigge was very close to making the top 12 as well, but finished 15th in the prelims due to a lower scoring final dive.
With steady performances throughout the 1-meter diving event, Luke (Kenmore, Wash.) only had a four point difference from prelims to the finals. With her strong dives, Luke finished fifth in the 1-meter diving event finals with a score of 245.95.
The top 12 divers from the prelims qualified to dive in the finals, where their scores were all set back to zero and rescored based on their dives in the finals.
Despite the cold weather and rain in Los Angeles, Calif., the 'Dogs weren't affected by the climate. The weather is supposed to clear up tomorrow providing more sun and clear skies.
"I think we are going to do even better tomorrow," said Patrick. "They are both relaxed and confident for tomorrow."
Saturday the divers will compete in the 3-meter dive event with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and the finals will start at 11:30 a.m.
The USC Diving Invitational consists of 10 teams: Arizona, Air Force, BYU, California, CSU Bakersfield, Fresno State, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, USC and Wisconsin.
"We Are Your Team!" - The Fresno State divers will return home on Saturday, Nov. 12 as they take on UC Davis at noon.
