Fall Dogs Earn Academic Honors

FRESNO, Calif. - The Western Athletic Conference named 43 Bulldogs as Academic All-WAC honorees for the fall of 2010. The sports honored include men's and women's cross country, football, soccer and volleyball.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. Because freshmen and transfers cannot earn the award until they have completed a full academic year at the school, those eligible student-athletes will be honored with the academic honors for the spring sports.

Of its 43 Academic All-WAC selections, Fresno State had 17 student-athletes from football honored, along with 11 student-athletes from soccer, seven from volleyball, four from women's cross country, and four from men's cross country.

Among the 17 student-athletes from the Bulldog football team, senior Ben Jacobs earned his fourth consecutive Academic All-WAC Award. The group of academic honorees also included six student-athletes receiving their third academic honor. This group included: seniors Lorne Bell, Vince Pascoe and Bobby Shepard, along with juniors Kevin Goessling, Bryce Harris and Shawn Plummer.

Seven Fresno State volleyball players were honored and amidst those, seniors Kelly Mason and Kasey Van Grouw earned their third consecutive All-WAC Academic Honor.

The Bulldog soccer team had seven student-athletes receive their second Academic All-WAC awards. The team also had two seniors, Alexandra Jensen and Kaitlyn Revel, earn their third successive honors.

On the men's and women's cross country teams four Bulldogs earned their second academic honor from the WAC: Eric Battles, Stevie Brumwell, Pamela Cruz and Julianne Warmerdam.
