FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's golf team took 11th place at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invite held at the Almaden Golf and Country Club in San Jose, Calif. The Bulldogs (325-315-313--953) posted their best round of the tournament on the final day of competition with a 25-over, ahead of Hawai'i, San Francisco and Colorado State for the ninth best score of the day.
Freshman Krysta Clark (83-80-76--239) carded the top final round score for the Dogs with a 4-over, 76 on the 6121-yard, par-72 course. After starting with a double-bogey on her first hole, Clark settled down by going only two shots above par over the next 17 holes and knocked in a birdie on the par-4 fifth. Clark finished the tournament tied for 45th place after starting the day tied for 58th.
The best total score for Dogs came from senior Chelsea Czinski (79-77-77--233) with a tie of 28th place at 17-over, claiming the teams' top spot for the fourth tournament in a row and fifth overall. Czinski had a stretch of nine straight pars starting on hole two.
Sophomore Shaylee Yano (78-80-80--238) tied for 42nd after shooting an 8-over for the second time in the last two rounds.
Junior Louisa Lies (85-78-80--243), who played with an injury, fired two birdies during the final round, which gave her a total of four on the tournament. Freshman Alison Timlin (92-88-90--270) recorded an 18-over on the final day of competition.
No. 9 Cal cruised to the tournament title by posting a 5-over on the day and 17-over for the tournament, 15 shots ahead of No. 22 UC Davis. The best round of the tournament was claimed by UC Davis with a 3-over, 291 on Tuesday.
Emily Childs (72-71-73--216) of Cal took the individual title by shooting even par, holding off teammate Joanna Lee (72-72-73--217, +1).
The Bulldogs return to action March 7-8 when they host the Fresno State Lexus Classic at Copper River Country Club.
