FRESNO, Calif. - It is amazing the difference one day can make. After shooting an 86 and 82 during rounds one and two, respectively, senior Chelsea Czinski turned in one of her best performances of the year with a 1-over, 73 on the 5,907-yard, par-72 Kane`ohe Klipper Golf Course.
The Bulldogs (316-314-311--941) came into the final round in 13th place but were able to jump four teams for the ninth spot at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on the island of O'ahu.
Czinski (86-82-73--241) got off to a rough start with a bogey on 14 but a birdie on the 493-yard, par-5 16th seemed to calm her down. She went on to shoot par on 14 of her final 15 holes, including a streak of 13 to finish off the round.
Freshman Krysta Clark and junior Louisa Lies both claimed the Dogs' top spot tied at 18-over par. Clark (78-79-77--234) and Lies (77-75-82--234) both sunk two birdies on the day.
Sophomore Shaylee Yano (78-80-82--240) came in at 24-over with freshman Christine Uhalde (83-80-79--242) two strokes behind at 26-over.
No. 10 Arizona State (293-293-301--887, +23) held the lead from day one to take home the title, 15 shots ahead of in-state rival No. 6 Arizona (293-293-301--887, +38).
No. 10 Carlota Ciganda (68-74-73--215, -1) of Arizona State held off No. 87 Alejandra Llaneza (70-73-73--216, E) of Arizona to earn the individual championship.
The Bulldogs will not return to action until April 5-6 at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate in Half Moon Bay, Calif.
"We Are Your Team!" Fresno State women's golf will receive a much needed rest before they compete in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate April 5-6.
