Dogs go 1-1 in the day

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 67 Fresno State women's tennis hosted a doubleheader to No. 42 Sacramento State Hornets and Pacific Tigers on Thursday. In the first match against the Hornets, the Bulldogs fell, 5-2. In the second match of the day Fresno State defeated Pacific 5-2.
The 67th-ranked Fresno State women's tennis team dropped its first home match of the day against the No. 42 Sacramento State Hornets on Thursday at the Wathen Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs came into the match with a phenomenal defeat over WAC opponent Louisiana Tech, 7-0 on Saturday.
Doubles team Bianca Modoc and Marianne Jodoin competed on court one for the seventh time together this season but fell to No. 68 Rebeca Delgado and Tatsiana Kapshai, 8-2 Finishing second of the day, Laura Pola and Abby Hayley were set aside by Sacramento State's Clarisse Baca and Maria Meliuk, 8-3. The only Fresno State doubles team to earn a victory was Melissa McQueen and Olga Kirpicheva. They defeated Sophie Lohscheidt and Katharina Knoebl, 8-3.
In singles, No. 99 singles player Jodoin defeated Sacramento State's top player, Kashai in two straight sets, 6-4, 6-0 earning the Bulldogs their first point of the day.
On court two, junior Pola advanced her resume in singles, defeating Delgado, 6-4, 6-3. Pola earned the final point for the Dogs against Sacramento State.
Finishing first in singles, Kirpicheva fell to Knoebl, 6-0, 6-2 and the Hornets advance their score, 2-0.
Hayley fell to Baca on court four, 6-1, 6-2 giving Sac State its third point of the match.
Sacramento State clinched the match on court five when Modoc fell to Lohscheidt in two straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.

The second match of the day the No. 67 Bulldogs defeat the Pacific Tigers, 5-2.
Earning their second doubles victory of the day, McQueen and Kirpicheva swept their competition, Pacific's Shabby Eslami and Summer Irvin, 8-0. Clinching the doubles point, Pola and Hayley defeated Olga Gumenyuk and Nikki Maciel, 8-6 on court three. Modoc and Jodoin fell to Jenifer Widjaja and Julia Hansen, 8-6.
Pola put the Bulldogs up 2-0, with 6-2, 6-2 victory over Julia Hansen on court two.
Sophomore Kirpicheva pushed the Dogs ahead the Tigers 3-0, defeating senior Kateryna, 6-2, 6-2.
On court five Modoc clinched the match for the Dogs picking up the victory in two straight set victories against Summer Irvin, 6-1, 6-2.
The Tigers won on courts three and four.
"Despite not being 100% in the first half of our season we played extremely well," said head coach Simon Thibodeau. "And we're really looking forward to the second half in our season and next week when we travel to San Diego."
Fresno State travels to San Diego next weekend to take on Illinois on March 25 and No. 62 San Diego State on March 26.
