FRESNO, Calif. - Bulldogs Head to Championships The Fresno State equestrian team is headed to the Varsity Equestrian National Championships in Waco, Texas this week. Coach Stephanie Reeves and Coach Julia Scrivani have helped lead the Bulldogs to this event the last four years. The Dogs are seeded seventh in the English events and 11th in the Western events. The competition will run all day Thursday-Sunday. The English ladies will compete against UT-Martin in the first round. The Dogs defeated the Tennessee team earlier this season with a final score of 10-9. The Western team will compete against TCU in the first round. The last four years the English team has made it past the first round and finished in seventh or eighth place in the nation.

All-American Awards This is the first year Varsity Equestrian honored All-American status as well as Honorable Mention All-American status to the top equestrian student-athletes in the country. The Varsity Equestrian Selection Committee had the difficult task of awarding the top for equestrian athletes in each of the respective events offered by Varsity Equestrian. These are the elite four riders in each respective event. Honorable Mention All-American status was determined by the Adjusted National Ranking Score which combines the student-athletes' win /loss record, adjusted average win margin, adjusted average score, and the number of MVPs awarded. Those athletes, who have a winning percentage of 67%, compete in a minimum of five competitions, and have an adjusted season composite National Ranking Score (NRS) of 85 for Equitation on the Flat, 90 for Equitation over Fences, 80 for Reining, and 80 for the Horsemanship event will be awarded Honorable Mention All-American status. Fresno State had two Honorable Mention All-American riders and those two Bulldogs were junior Kimberly Hewson Budnik and senior Holly Elsbernd.
Saddle Club Fresno State's Saddle Club is the booster program for the women's equestrian team. The Saddle Club is a fan based organization established to increase the enthusiasm for Fresno State equestrian and to enhance the student-athlete experience.
