No. 13 Dogs Host Hawai'i

FRESNO, Calif. - After five games on the road, the Fresno State baseball team returns to Pete Beiden Field. The Bulldogs host Hawai'i for a four-game WAC series April 29- May 2. The Dogs and Rainbows battle for first place in the conference standings.
Fresno State vs. Hawai'i
The Bulldogs lead the overall series against Hawai'i 73-48. The Dogs last played the Rainbows last year in the WAC Tournament Championship game. The Bows won that game 9-6. The Dogs won four of seven meetings in 2010.
About the Rainbows
Hawai'i is 22-17 on the season and 7-1 in WAC. The Rainbows are hitting .256 with 10 home runs and 175 RBIs. Kolten Wong is hitting .400 with three triples, five home runs and 33 RBIs. The pitching staff has a 3.18 ERA and 272 strikeouts. Matt Sisto has a 2.48 ERA and has struck out 43 batters in 61.2 innings.
Bulldog Winning Ways
The Bulldogs are among top teams with the fewest losses in the nation. Fresno State has the third best winning percentage in college baseball with a 28-7 record (.800). Virginia leads the nation with a record of 40-4 (.909). Virginia and Vanderbilt (35-5) are the only teams in the nation with less losses than the Bulldogs. The teams that are ranked higher than the Dogs in the Top 10 range between eight and 16 losses on the season.
How the Dogs Stack Up Nationally
The Bulldogs rank among the top 20 in the nation in several statistical categories. As a team, the Dogs have the seventh best ERA (2.41) in the country, the third best winning percentage (.800) and the 11th best fielding percentage (.978). Dusty Robinson is 17th in home runs per game (.31). Charlie Robertson is sixth in the nation in saves (11). Greg Gonzalez is 15th in the nation with a 1.31 ERA and 16th in the nation in strikeouts (77). Gonzalez is also 10th in the country in hits allowed per nine innings (5.24).
And the Winner is...
For the fourth time this year, Greg Gonzalez was named WAC Pitcher of the Week for April 18-24. He earned the accolade after throwing his first complete game shutout of the season and tied his career-high 12 strikeouts in a 2-0 win over Sacramento State. Outfielder Brennan Gowens became the first Bulldog to earn WAC Hitter of the Week honors for the week of March 14-20.

Home Field Advantage
Fresno State will play 35 games at Pete Beiden Field in 2011. The Bulldogs are 19-2 at home. Since 2003 the Dogs have had a winning record at Beiden Field. Under Batesole, the Dogs are 183-100 at home. The best home record in Batesole's tenure came in 2006 when the Bulldogs went 34-7 at Beiden Field.
Bulldogs Score First
Head Coach Mike Batesole stresses the importance of scoring first and the Bulldogs are doing just that. Fresno State has outscored opponent 201-103 in 35 games. In the first three innings, the Dogs have outscored opponents 80-37.
940 KYNO New Home of Fresno State baseball
Fresno State Athletics announced that it will partner with 940 KYNO in airing the 2011 baseball season. 940 KYNO will be the new home of Bulldog baseball for the next three years. Paul Loeffler will remain the voice of Fresno State baseball. Ray O'Canto will return for his fourth season as the color commentator.
Friday Fan Appreciation Night
Friday night is fan appreciation night at Pete Beiden Field. In honor of our fans, Fresno State will be giving away FREE Nike gear before the baseball game. The giveaway will start at 5 p.m. at the first base entrance to the stadium. The giveaway will include Nike polo's, dri-fit gear, warm ups. There are both men's and women's clothing. After purchasing their tickets, fans are eligible to pick three items. The ticket office will open at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
"We Are Your Team!" The Bulldogs return home to face Hawai'i April 29- May 1 at Beiden Field. Free Nike gear will be given away before Friday night's game. On Saturday, all little league players in the eighth grade or younger get in free with a paid adult. And on Sunday, all veteran and active military get in free with their I.D.
