Awards Banquet Celebrates Dogs' Season

FRESNO, Calif. - To commemorate the end of the 2010-11 and celebrate the individual achievements throughout, the Fresno State women's golf team held their awards banquet at Pardini's on Sunday afternoon.
Head coach Angie Cates-Moore not only honored her squad for their athletic achievements this season but also recognized their performance in the classroom. The team earned an average GPA of 3.5 in the fall which is among the best in the athletic department.
On the golf course, the Bulldogs achieved ten Top 10 finishes, including four times in the Top 5, out of 11 tournaments which had an average of 17 teams at each event. Their best finish came at the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational where they claimed second place. As a team, the Dogs produced a record-high 243 birdies during tournaments.
The following award winners were chosen by Coach Cates-Moore for their accomplishments this season.
Bulldog Award: Krysta Clark
This award is for the player who has the best attitude throughout the year. Krysta respects the game, the opportunity she has been given, her teammates and her coaches. She does what needs to be done and does it with a positive attitude. Krysta's teammates have recognized her outstanding attitude and her ability to lift others up. She was always the life of the party. She only missed one tournament this year and was one of the hardest workers.
Top Dog Award: Shaylee Yano
Shaylee exemplifies what it means to be a student-athlete. She played in 28 competitive rounds for the Bulldogs and her scores were used 25 times. Shaylee was second on the team for total of birdies made this year. She had the team best up and down percentage for the Spring season and the lowest first round scoring average. She achieved many of her goals this year and she continues to excel in the classroom.
Most Improved: Chelsea Czinski
Chelsea improved in 26 of 27 statistical categories from last year to this year. Her scoring average improved by two shots and her last round scoring average improved by an impressive three strokes. Last year her best finish was a tie for 19th at Hawai'i and this year she took home a fantastic second place finish at Cal Poly. Chelsea was one of the Bulldogs' biggest contributors and led the team in hitting the most fairways (86 percent), fewest putts per round (30), sand save percentage (36 percent), fewest doubles per round (.7) and best up and down percentage (53 percent).
Most Inspirational/MVP: Louisa Lies
Louisa was this years' team captain and has only missed three tournaments since joining the Bulldogs. She has an incredible passion for this sport and competition. She was recently nominated for the National Kim Moore Spirit Award which recognizes a student-athlete who exemplifies a great spirit toward the game of golf, a positive attitude on and off the golf course, a role model for her team and mental toughness in facing challenges. Louisa led the team in hitting the most greens at 62 percent, birdies with a total of 70 and scoring with an average of 76.
