Yoho and Luke Earn Team MVP Honors

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State swimmers and divers concluded the 2010-11 season with their annual banquet. The Bulldogs celebrated four seniors and honored five Dogs with team voted upon awards.
"This group was voted on by the team and were also selections the coaching staff would have made," said head coach Jeanne Fleck. "We are going to miss our seniors as they were instrumental in getting this program to where it is now."
Sophomore Dani Yoho was named the team MVP Swimmer and Stacey Luke was named MVP Diver. Hannah Prigge was named Freshman of the Year for her performance off the diving board. The Most Improved Award went to Jen Hicks and the Most Inspirational was Cindy Engle.
Yoho (Sugar Land, Texas) concluded an outstanding second season for the Dogs with a MVP performance. Yoho contributed to the breaking of six Fresno State records and an NCAA b-cut qualifying time at the WAC Championship Meet. Yoho also won multiple 50-yard freestyle races at multiple meets, including the Dogs home Valley Invite where she helped her team to a second place finish.
Luke (Kenmore, Wash.) was named MVP Diver for the second year in a row. She came back for her second season to qualify for her second consecutive NCAA Zone Competition and helped her team by winning multiple titles and improving her career-bests. At Zones, Luke qualified for the finals off the 1-meter board and had a 14th-place finish. At UC Davis, Luke had an outstanding performance when she claimed the 1-meter title and also placed second off the 3-meter board.
Prigge, a native of Rocklin, Calif. was voted by her teammates as the Freshman of the Year Award. Prigge completed a standout freshman season for the Dogs by establishing herself as one of the team's top divers. In her first season she qualified to compete at the NCAA Zone Competition. Prigge dove both her season-bests at the Valley Invitational to help her team to a second place finish. At the Invite she scored 269.70 points off the 1-meter board for a first-place finish and 283.75 points off the 3-meter. She was named WAC Diver of the Week for her performance.
The Most Improved Award went to Hicks who came to Fresno State from Cincinnati, Ohio. Hicks had a 2010-11 season full of improvement, concluding at the WAC Championship Meet by recording two career-bests. She swam the 500-yard free in 5:05.63 and the 1650-yard free in 17:21.90. Her 1650 free time ranked her 14th in the WAC. She also topped her 100-yard free against San Jose State with a time of 10:42.35 for a total of three improved career-bests in the season.
Senior Cindy Engle was named the Most Inspirational on the 2010-11 swimming and diving team. She not only improved in the water but made an impact by encouraging her team and inspiring progress. Engle swam a career-best in the 100-yard butterfly and 50-yard freestyle at the WAC Championship Meet to finish her career as a bulldog. Engle also worked hard out of the water and was a two-time Academic All-WAC honoree.
