Four 'Dogs Earn MVPs In First Round Win

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs fought hard in Round One of The Willis Invitational defeating Miami of Ohio 11-5. The 'Dogs swept the board receiving all MVP honors and recorded some excellent scores.
"I am very excited to see the team have a spectacular performance like today," said co-head coach Julia Scrivani. "We all worked together and stayed strong to motivate each other to ride our best."
The Bulldogs started the action with Equitation on the Flat recording a 3-1 victory. Kimberly Hewson Budnik received the MVP honor for this event with a high score of 72. Kimberly Steinbuch (53) and Lisa Beach (68) also earned points for Fresno State.
In Equitation over Fences Nicole Roworth recorded a high score of 83 earning her the MVP honor for the event. Holly Elsbernd (82) and Hillary West (64) also earned points for Fresno State.
This wrapped up the Hunter Seat competition of Round One giving the 'Dogs a 6-2 lead as they head into the Western Seat competition. Miami of Ohio only had a Hunter Team, so a scramble team was put together for their western team. It consisted of a mix of western riders from the other teams.
Lauren Crivelli was the top rider in Horsemanship earning an MVP honor with the high score of 75. Kirsten McKillop (71.5) also recorded a win in the event for Fresno State. The 'Dogs tied Miami of Ohio in the Horsemanship event 2-2.
Reining was the final event of Round One and the Bulldogs were victorious winning 3-1.
Sydney Coletti received the MVP honor for the event recording a high score 73.5. Sonya Koch (70) and Lauren Crivelli (73), who also earned a point for Fresno State in Horsemanship, earned a win in the Reining event.
The Bulldogs dominated in Round One recording a total raw score of 1135.5 to 1009.5.
"Today our ladies pulled together and showed their true strength," said co-head coach Stephanie Reeves. "We took MVPs in each event we competed in. I'm excited to see the ladies return to the arena tomorrow for more high scoring rides."
Fresno State drew South Dakota State for Round Two. The round was started today and will be completed tomorrow. Round Three will also take place tomorrow as the 'Dogs take on Baylor University to conclude The Willis Invitational.
