FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State women's lacrosse head coach Jessica Pausewang is not worried about the preseason polls as the Bulldogs are only a couple weeks away from starting the season versus Cincinnati at San Diego State Feb. 19.
Despite being picked eighth in the Mountain Pacific Sport Federation coaches' poll which was released Tuesday, Pausewang is looking forward to changing people's perception.
"I am excited for us to have a challenge this season and to change people's opinions about this talented group of lacrosse players," Pausewang said.
Fresno State is returning this season with a new head coach, a new assistant coach, and two newcomers. Sixteen student-athletes are returning and the program is looking stronger than ever.
"Their dedication and willingness to push themselves every day is so rewarding as a coach," Pausewang said. "These girls have a strong spirit and desire to get better with every practice. They take on every challenge, I couldn't be happier coaching them."
Pausewang and her staff are working hard towards changing the culture of lacrosse in the Valley and making Fresno State a competitor nationwide.
"This program is only in its fourth season as a varsity sport without having any time developing as a club," Pausewang said. "Given the program's past history and where we stand in the preseason poll I'm excited to have people take a second look at Fresno State lacrosse.
"We are going to prove to them that we are growing to be a true competitor not only in this conference but throughout the country."
