With the win, Fresno State improved to 69-19 all-time in home openers.
Fresno State improved to 10-0 in home openers at the Save Mart Center and have won those games by an average of 15.3 points. Tonight's 5-point victory was the closest of any of Save Mart Center season-opening victories.
Fresno State is also now 47-30 against the Tigers in home games.
Junior guard Kevin Olekaibe jumped from 40th into a tie for 37th on the all-time Fresno Scoring list with a season-best 11 points. He now has 942 career points in in 65 games, including 55 starts.
Olekaibe also moved up from ninth to eight all-time in the program's 3-point field goal attempts tally. He has taken a total 454 3-pointers.
With his 13 points and 10 rebounds, senior Kevin Foster posted his fourth career double-double. He has now grabbed 206 career boards in 36-game Fresno State career.
With both teams committing 17 turnovers, Fresno State has not had more turnovers than its opponents in 33 of 36 games since Rodney Terry's arrival in 2011.
Under Terry, Fresno State improved to 14-7 when playing in the state of California and 4-1 versus Big West opponents.
Freshman Robert Upshaw dressed in uniform for the first time this season. He is still out indefinitely with a lower body injury, but is expected to make his Bulldog debut during Monday night's road game at Cal Poly.
