Junior Tyler Johnson scored a career-best 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor, including a 3-for-6 clip on 3-pointers. He also grabbed five rebounds.
Fresno State improved to 4-1 against Big West opponents this season. The Bulldogs play their sixth and last BWC opponent this year when UC Irvine visits the Save Mart Center on Dec. 17.
As the winners in the turnover battle, Fresno State has now not committed more turnovers than its opponents in 36 of 40 games since head coach Rodney Terry's arrival in 2011.
Also under Terry, Fresno State has a +117 steal margin by averaging 7.0 steals per game and own a +3.0 steal edge per contest.
Fresno State is also now 16-8 when playing in the state of California under Terry and 6-2 overall against the Big West the past two seasons.
With the Bulldogs' win and No. 17/15 San Diego State defeating Texas Southern, the Mountain West improved its nation-best start to the 2012-13 season to 53-11 against non-conference opponents. Five of those 11 losses have come against teams that were or are ranked, including Fresno State's 55-53 loss at then-No. 24 Texas on Nov. 9, 2012.
Fresno State freshman Tanner Giddings made his first career start and senior Garrett Johnson was also inserted into the Bulldogs' starting five for the first time this season.
The Mountain West owns the nation's best collective win percentage with a 53-11 record entering tonight's matchup.
