FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State Bulldogs battled No. 3 University of Georgia coming close in multiple match ups, but couldn't find the individual victories in the 17-1 loss. The University of Georgia improved to 9-1 on the season as the Bulldogs moved to 7-5.
Sophomore Hillary West was the only Bulldog to win her point on the day and it came in Equitation over Fences with a high score of 72. She defeated Georgia's Carly Anthony by 17 points, who scored a 55.
In Horsemanship Sammie Jo Stone tied her opponent Sara Parr with a 72 and in Reining Sydney Coletti tied her opponent Morgan Collins with a 69. Also in Reining Lauren Crivelli fell to her opponent Kelly Truesdell by just 0.5 points.
The University of Georgia had the home field advantage knowing its horses well and working with them on a daily basis. The Fresno State Bulldogs, with only four minutes to warm up with their competition horses, competed tough with each ride coming in just a few points short in many of the match ups.
Up next, the Bulldogs will return home for a team scrimmage on Saturday, March 3 at 9 a.m. It will run as a regular competition starting the morning with Equitation over Fences. Then they will compete in Horsemanship and Equitation on the Flat simultaneously, and will conclude with Reining.
"We Are Your Team!" - The Fresno State equestrian team will compete in a team scrimmage at the Student Horse Center on Saturday, March 3 at 9 a.m.
