FRESNO, Calif. --- Fresno State sophomores Kevin Olekaibe and Jerry Brown were named to 2012 College Sports Madness All-Western Athletic Conference teams for their production during the 2011-12 men's basketball regular season.
Olekaibe, who was tabbed to the first team, ranked sixth among NCAA DI sophomore scorers and finished second in the WAC in scoring average at 18.0 points per game. During the season, he scored 10 or more points in 24 games, reached at least 20 points 12 times and topped the 25-point mark eight times.
Olekaibe was also named to the CollegeHoops.net All-WAC team to up his total to three All-WAC selections so far this year.
Brown received a nod to CSM's All-WAC fourth team after he posted an average of 8.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.2 steals, 1.0 assists, and 0.8 blocks per game. Brown, who redshirted the 2010-11 season with a back injury, also recorded a team-best 48 percent field goal percentage (95-for-198) and 70 offensive rebounds.
Seventh-seeded Fresno State (13-19, 3-11 WAC) will open play at the 2012 WAC Tournament on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. PT against No. 2-seed New Mexico State. The game can be heard live on KMJ 580 AM.
