FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs competed against No. 2 Auburn on their first day of competition in Las Cruces, N.M. They fell to the Tigers 11-5 in a tough head-to-head competition.
"The team rode well today," said head Hunt Seat coach Julia Scrivani. "Auburn had the opportunity to ride against New Mexico State earlier today which gave them the chance to know the horses. We came out, put up a good fight, and we came close to matching their raw score. We look forward to taking our knowledge of today to the competition tomorrow."
The Bulldogs tied the Tigers in Equitation on the Flat, 2-2 and almost tied in raw score 307-306. Kimberly HewsonBudnik (80) and Macy Wilson (78) picked up the wins in that event earning two points for the Bulldogs. The Tigers swept the 'Dogs in Equitation over Fences winning the event 4-0.
Fresno State also tied Auburn in Horsemanship, 2-2 and came close in raw score as well, 279.5-276. Senior captain Sammie Jo Stone earned her point with a 68.5 and Allie Warkentin also won her point with a 69.5.
In Reining the Bulldogs fell 3-1 with a raw score of 553.5-535. Ciara Kozlowski was the only Bulldog to pick up a win in this event with a score of 66.5.
