BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 53 Fresno State women's tennis team lost to No. 10 California, 7-0, on Tuesday at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
The `Dogs (11-8, 3-0 WAC) fell to the Bears (17-5, 8-1 Pac-12) at all three doubles positions despite a tough fight from the No. 2 and 3 doubles teams.
No. 65 ranked doubles team, Bianca Modoc and Aishwarya Agrawal, came close to defeating 17th-ranked Anett Schutting and Annie Goransson but fell in the end, 8-6, at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3, Melissa McQueen and Tanya Murtagh pushed California's Tayler Davis and Alice Duranteau to an extra set but fell in a 9-7 decision.
In singles the Bears continued to bully the Bulldogs taking seven victories in straight sets. At the No. 5 spot, the first of California's five nationally ranked singles players, No. 99 Goransson, beat junior Modoc, 6-0, 6-2. No. 12 Zsofi Susanyi defeated freshman Agrawal, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 and No. 55 Davis beat Laura Pola, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 4 to clinch the team win for the Bears.
No. 8 Jana Juricova defeated No. 38 Marianne Jodoin, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 1 and the Bear's Cecilia Estlander beat sophomore Murtagh, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 6. The match ended at the No. 3 spot where junior McQueen suffered a 6-3, 7-5, lost to No. 81 Anett Schutting.
The `Dogs travel to San Luis Obispo to face Cal Poly on Saturday at noon at Mustang Courts.
