Bulldogs Make Move at WAC Championship

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's golf made the biggest jump during the second round of the WAC Championship by recording a 9-over, 297 to move into third place going into the final day of competition Wednesday.
The Bulldogs improved on their first round score by eight strokes to sit at 26-over, 602 and are only six shots from second place Idaho. Three-time defending champion San Jose State matched their first round performance by firing a 3-over, 291 to lead by 14 strokes.Senior Louisa Lies continues to lead the 'Dogs after carding another 1-over, 73 to sit at 2-over and in a tie for fifth. Lies made the turn at 2-under, 34 after firing three birdies on the front nine and finished the day with five, including one on the 495-yard, par-5 18th.
Junior Shaylee Yano made the biggest improvement by moving into a tie for 16th after firing a 1-under, 71. Yano recorded a bogey-free 3-under, 33 on the front nine and added two more birdies to also finish with a total of five.
Christine Uhalde shot a 2-over, 74 to move into a tie for 13th at 7-over while Madchen Ly carded a 7-over, 79 to sit in 18th at 9-over. Krysta Clark is in a tie for 29th at 26-over.
After starting the day in second, defending champion Kayla Mortellaro of Idaho jumped into first by firing a 1-under, 71 and sits at 3-under. Teammates Kathleen Rojas and Madeleine Ziegert of San Jose State are in second place at even-par.
The Bulldogs return to action Wednesday to compete in the final round of the WAC Championship with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. PST.
