FRESNO, Calif. - As Fresno State prepares to enter the Mountain West Conference, the Bulldogs have maintained an exceptionally high performance in the classroom with an overall 968 out of 1000 department Academic Progress Rate (APR) for the 2010-11 academic year, according to the latest data released by the NCAA today.
For the third straight year since the NCAA adopted the APR program, all of Fresno State's sports programs are meeting and often exceeding standards. Additionally, none are under APR penalties.
"These scores encompass all the hard work of our collective efforts," said Betsy Mosher, Deputy Director of Athletics. "We are very proud of these accomplishments - both in terms of academic performance and retention - and know that we must ensure that this on-going priority is always a part of our routine. We have asked all of our student-athletes, coaches and staff to make academic success an expectation of our mission to foster one of the finest student-athlete experiences on the West Coast."
There was improvement nearly across the board in the multi-year year rates as 13 of Fresno State's 18 NCAA recognized sports either surpassed or maintained last year's scores.
Several programs have made significant improvements over the last four years, led by the men's basketball team which has improved 110 points (816 to 926). The men's tennis team (893 to 975) and baseball program (893 to 983) have also made great strides.
"Our student-athletes continue to do well in the classroom," said Natalie Nakic, Fresno State's Interim Director of Student-Athlete Services. "Our coaches have done a great job of recruiting student-athletes that can be successful at Fresno State and together with our academic staff, we all work hard on helping our student-athletes earn a degree and preparing them for life after athletics."
