FRESNO, Calif. --- Fresno State junior guard Marvelle Harris posted his fifth career double-double as the Bulldogs cruised to a 93-62 win over the Saint Katherine College Firebirds on Sunday afternoon at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State (5-8) took advantage of its opportunity to get one last tune-up before starting its Mountain West slate on Wednesday at defending tournament champion New Mexico.
Four 'Dogs scored in double figures (Harris, Darnell Taylor, Paul Watson and Karachi Edo) as Fresno State converted 58.5 percent of its field goal attempts.
"Since we've come from break, we've really focused on sitting down and guarding," Fresno State head coach Rodney Terry said. "We know we have a long ways to go defensively. I thought we got a little bit of work with playing our switching defense. I think we are closer than we were a year ago (defensively).
Harris' double-double - his first this season - finished as 10 points and 10 assists, paired with five steals and three rebounds in just 23 minutes. Taylor scored a career-high 16 points while Watson added 14 and Edo had 12.
As a squad, Fresno State recorded 15 steals and outrebounded SKC 42-24. The Bulldogs also had 22 assists and outscored the Firebirds 56-24 in the paint and 28-11 in points off turnovers.
"We had 13 assists at halftime and finished with 22 assists," Terry said. "Sharing the basketball and moving the basketball is something that stood out in what we were able to do today. It's that time for us to start conference play. We're excited to start and know we have an opponent on Wednesday in New Mexico that has achieved at a high level."
