FRESNO, Calif. -- The Fresno State swimming and diving team won 10 of 14 events on the day on its way to a 137-101 win over Cal State East Bay on Saturday afternoon at the Aquatics Center.
"It was a good meet for us," Bulldogs head coach Jeanne Fleck said. "We swam really, really well today."
It was the 200 Medley Relay that got the `Dogs started with their winning ways on Saturday. The relay team of Esme Gullick, Brooke Rodriguez, Tarryn Rennie and Leah Hatayama swam a 1:47.29 to win the event by almost three seconds.
Of that relay team, Hatayama would also go on to win the 200 Freestyle (1:56.14) and the 100 Freestyle (52.45 seconds) later in the meet. Gullick went on to win the 100 Butterfly with a time of 58.59 seconds. Rodriguez also picked up a win in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:05.36.
Fresno State finished 1-2-3 in the 200 Butterfly. Freshman Casey Kennemann won the event with a 2:08.56. Lindsay Ruiz (2:11.86) and Danielle Powers (2:15.09) finished second and third. Later in the meet, Kennemann picked up her second win of the day by winning the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:08.40.
Junior Hannah Jarvis won the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.44. The other Bulldog to pick up a win on the day was Hailee Baldwin in the 200 Breaststroke. The sophomore won the event in 2:22.26.
The Bulldogs will remain home next weekend when they host Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount and San Diego for the Beach Cup. Fresno State is the defending champions of the event after winning the 2014 edition hosted by Loyola Marymount.
"I think the girls are excited about defending what we won last year and going for another win this year," Fleck said. "Being home and having the confidence from today's meet will really help us next weekend."
