'Dogs Look to Defend Beach Cup Title

FRESNO, Calif. -- The Fresno State swimming and diving team hosts the Beach Cup this weekend and will look to defend their 2014 title. The two Bulldog divers will head down to Los Angeles after the meet to compete in the UCLA Diving Invitational on Sunday and Monday.
Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount and San Diego will join the Bulldogs for the Beach Cup. Last season at Loyola Marymount, Fresno State edged San Diego by 40 points to win the 2014 Beach Cup.
"It's gonna be struggle with three or four girls that are questionable with illnesses this weekend," Fresno State head coach Jeanne Fleck said. "We're going to have to step it up and be ready to race because everyone is going to be gunning for us since we won last season."
Last season, the Bulldogs won six of the 13 events on the final day of the meet to propel them to their first ever Beach Cup title.
The Fresno State divers, Shelbie Holden and Lacie Ruth, will compete in the Beach Cup on Friday and Saturday. They will leave after the meet on Saturday and compete in the 3-meter dive at UCLA on Sunday. Then on Monday, the duo will compete on the Platform in Los Angeles to close to a busy weekend for swimming and diving.
Competition for the Beach Cup gets started tomorrow at 1 p.m., and continues on Saturday at 10 a.m.
