HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. - Joanna Kim, Hannah Sodersten and Samantha Spencer each fired a final round 73 to close out the Ron Moore Intercollegiate on Sunday, a trio of low-round scores that led the Fresno State women's golf team to an eighth place finish out of the 18-team field.
"It was great to see us close the weekend with a solid round today," said head coach Emily Milberger-Loftin. "And to see Hannah [Sodersten] finish in the Top 25 was also exciting. To see her bounce back after a tough first round with back-to-back solid rounds to finish the event showed off her senior leadership."
Sodersten shot a 1-over 73 on Saturday and Sunday (second and third rounds) after carding a 3-over 75 to open play. Her 5-over 221 tournament score led all Bulldogs and placed her tied for 25th out of 99 competitors.
Spencer matched a career-low 73 on Sunday, a mark she last accomplished at the Fresno State Classic last season at San Joaquin Country Club. The sophomore's 54-hole 9-over 225 was also a season-low. Spencer tied for 46th against the field.
Kim carded three-straight birdies on holes 14, 15 and 16 after a bogey to start the day on the 11th hole (shotgun start). Kim ended the day at 1-over 73, her lowest round of the weekend. She placed tied for 74th.
The team's eighth place finish came via an 891 (27-over) tournament score.
Tournament host, the University of Denver, claimed the Ron Moore Intercollegiate championship (2-under, 862) while Kassidy Teare of Long Beach State won the individual title (8-under, 208).
One fall tournament remains for Fresno State following Sunday's action, the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown on Oct. 25-27. It will be hosted by UNLV at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
