Head Coach Jaime White
Opening statement...
"It was a hard game. We knew CSU Bakersfield was going to bring everything they had and they did a good job. I thought they defended us well. We shot 28 percent from the field. I thought a big difference in the game was that we only turned the ball over 11 times. It was a lot different than last time when we were in Bakersfield, when we turned the ball over 29 times. We out rebounded them by six. We had 22 offensive rebounds. Bego and Moriah did a good job of diving out of bounds, which was good to see. I don't know if you can expect some of our consistent players to not play as consistent but I thought everybody around them played through some of those hard times and really buckled down the last five minutes and came away with the win."
On Britney Aikens...
"Britney does a good job and she did a good job last weekend up at the St. Mary's Tournament. You know for her to only have one turnover and three assists is huge. Also she has that little pull up in the middle and that is really hard to guard, especially with all the pressure we were facing. I thought early in the first half we missed a lot of easy shots. We kind of tightened it up in the second half and started knocking those down. Having a 32-18 edge in the paint and I think that's a big deal. Our focus was to get the ball to the rim and maybe draw a foul and knock some free throws down."
On Moriah Faulk...
"I thought Moriah did a good job of attacking the basket. We drew some fouls on CSUB's Erika Williams, which was really important because she is a really good shooter. I thought we did a good job of getting her the ball. We went inside from the high post, and then when they stopped defending that we were able to drive attack the basket and play under some physicality that we haven't necessarily played under."
On free throws...
"That was big. We had to step up and knock them down. Also it's interesting at the end of games, sometimes you wonder if they are actually fouling or not. So if you hold the ball and try to get fouled it is not always called and or they're not trying to. I thought we did good job defending those moments.
On forcing 22 turnovers...
"I thought we did a god job. We ran a lot of zone, but not even our aggressive zone. We ran some more of our saggy zone because we knew that they could drive and they were going to attack. I thought we did a good job holding our ground and stopping the gaps so that they couldn't get through."
On Bakersfield...
"Bakersfield is a good team. Their overall record does not in any way depict how they are going to do in the WAC. They've played South Carolina and Arizona State, two teams that have really helped them play at a high level. So we knew that was going to happen when they came in here. They were going to have that physicality and the size."
On improvements the Bulldogs need to make...
"I think with the pressure we face, we've got to make sure that pressure doesn't effect our offense. I think that's what it did tonight. It's never a coaches' dream that you have to create offense during the middle of the game or create a way for them to get open. I think we listened and we were able to do a couple things differently to allow us to get the ball inside."
On her double-double...
"Well I think it was because my teammates gave me great passes. I just tried to finish it because they were really aggressive inside."
On the pressure inside...
"We knew it was going to be aggressive because the coaches told us. She is a good aggressive player, but I think we did a great job and I am happy about the outcome."
On leading the team with 16 points...
"I am happy that we got the win. We knew this was going to be a tough game for us so being able to score for my teammates and help us get the win felt great."
On the win compared to last year...
"It feels good just to get the win. We have been working really hard. We have had some tough losses so I think putting two and two together is giving us confidence going into the rest of season. Obviously we really wanted to beat Bakersfield because of how the game went last year, so it fueled us a lot coming in to this game and made us play hard."
